Designed for the Fine Art Photographer, this Certificate Program will provide the student with enough shooting experiences to not only challenge the photographer to design a creative solution to the photographic problem, but to execute a satisfactory technical solution.  Not every photographer is naturally creative.  Still others are not naturally technically minded.  The fine art certificate aims to have the right side of the brain communicate and work with the left side of the brain.  The fine Art Certificate will assist participants to create images that can be sold in the stock image market or to create images worthy to hang in an art gallery or museum.

The Fine Art Certificate Program has four prerequisite classes:

Basic 35mm/Digital Photography #101

Basic Photoshop #201

Basic Portrait Lighting #401

The Art of Seeing #150

Several classes and workshops can be substituted so long as they are of equal intensity and value.  For example:

Either Photography as Social Conciousness #162 or Woodward Re-Photographic Project can be substituted for Healing with Photography #164.

Essence of Woman can be substited for Artistic Figure on Location #901.

Many former students crusing the web page may become interested in joining the certificate program having already taken one or more of the classes.  MPW will give credit for classes already taken or permit them to sit down with our counselor (Bryce) and select other worthy classes and workshops to subsitute.

Midwest Photography Workshops is instituting nine new certificate programs effective April 1, 2007.  Completion of any of the programs will mean the photographer/artist has demonstrated a mastery of the discipline.  Homework, exams, and the creation and presentation of a portfolio are among the minimum requirements toward the completion of a certificate.

Each certificate has a core group of classes and workshops designed to provide the student with a complete and diverse educational experience pertaining to that particular certificate.  By enrolling in a certificate program, the student will get approximately a 20% savings in tuition as compared with enrolling in the same classes/workshops individually.

Earning a certificate will demonstrate to a prospective client or employer, an ability to start and complete a large in-depth project.  The resulting portfolio is an integral tool or proof that the photographer is capable of doing the job.

Prior to enrollment, each student is given an assessment exam to quantify what they know.  The results of this exam is used to customize an academic plan of how best to build upon what the talents and experiences the student already has and deliver the photographic education they need.  Upon completion of the classroom portion of the program, the assessment exam is re-administered to measure the progress achieved.  Finally, an in-depth portfolio review is scheduled.

Many employers and labor unions such as the UAW offer Tuition Assistance Programs (ETAP).  Midwest Photography Workshops participates in many of these programs. MPW is also a Veterans Administration Vocational approved school. Please check with your employer to see if you qualify or contact Bryce Denison - Director of Midwest Photography Workshops at
