Midwest Photographic WorkshopsCourse DescriptionsMidwest Photographic Workshops has divided our courses into two categories: Weekend/Week Long Workshops and Evening Classes. Evening Classes tend to be scheduled from 7 - 10PM on weeknights unless otherwise specified Weekday classes tend to be from 10:30 AM to 1:30 or 2:00PM. Classes generally meet once per week for 4 to 6 weeks. Weekend workshops tend to be all day on Saturday or Sunday from 10 - 5. Nude Figure in the Environment – West Workshop $1995.00

This six-day Figure in the Environment-West workshop offers the participant a hands-on approach to making great images. High quality instruction and creative techniques provide the individual with the opportunity to explore his or her photographic expression under the guidance of experienced instructors. The daily photographic sessions will include different locations in the Grand Junction & Moab areas. Grand Junction is surrounded by the Colorado National Monument area; an areas of vast towering rock and mountain formations. Moab, Utah is less than a two-hour drive west of Grand Junction and is well known for Arches National Park located there. The monumental arches and red slick rock formations are known worldwide for their natural beauty. We will be working in secluded and privately owned properties. Models pose among slick rock formations, rivers, slot canyons and mountain retreats. Instruction will emphasize the advantages of natural light photography, metering, the use of the “Zone System” for Black & White and color slide photography. Learn the proper use of filters, fill-light, syncro-sunlight flash photography, and posing models. 35mm, medium format or digital cameras are welcome. Evening sessions will include casual get-together's where participants will have an opportunity to discuss the day’s events, view the evening slide presentations and enjoy the comradeship of fellow students. Everyone is encouraged to bring their portfolio for a group for a review and critique. Participants will have the opportunity to have their E-6 slide films process during the workshop to help assure maximum productivity and results. Professional lab service is available in both Grand Junction and Moab. Workshop fees do not include accommodations, meals, or transportation to and from Grand Junction, Colorado. Ground Transportation is provided from the hotel to all shooting locations. This two and one half day workshop will provide an excellent shooting experience. We will be on the Lake Michigan side of the state for two days of shooting in and around the Saugatuck sand dunes. Models are provided, travel, room and board are not. Group rates are available. This is the only workshop in 2006 that model releases are available. We will have a small, intimate workshop with a student to instructor ratio of about 6-7 to 1 to maximize your workshop experience. Film or digital cameras are welcome. Video cameras are not welcome.

This one-day studio workshop is well suited for the photographer shooting B&W film but the lighting is also compatible for color images as well. The first hour of the day is spent reviewing a slide lecture tracing the history of the figure in painting, sculpture and most especially – photography. The rest of the morning session deals with lighting demonstrations to embellish the form, the contours and lines that are the essence of woman. This workshop will emphasize previsualization, abstract design, and the interplay of texture, geometric line, shape, and composition. Models pose with and without props. Students are encouraged to direct the models in various settings and poses. Learn to “see” in ways they may not have experimented previously. Tungsten balanced films are recommended as we will use artificial hot lights. The afternoon session will include demonstrations on rim lighting, movement and blur and finally, projecting images upon the model’s body. Learn how to pose the figure model plus the how’s & why’s to place the lights to get the effects you desire. You will need at least one roll of tungsten color film. Nude Figure in 3 Dimensions (3D) $175.00

Learn to create 3D figure photos using your digital or regular film camera and the slide bar. Dedicated stereo cameras, such as the Realist, will also be demonstrated. Learn 3D composition, lighting, and posing by shooting photographs of the beautiful figure model provided in class. Practice stable figure poses for the slidebar technique, helpful hints about props, and the creation of a 3D scene. Finally, learn about presentation of 3D images, including slides, stereo cards, anaglyphs, and computer viewing. Demonstrations include high quality modern 3D viewers. The morning session involves shooting photos of figure model. Afternoon session involves outputting hard copy prints to exact size, color and registration so they can be viewed on an inexpensive hand viewer with special lenses to create the 3-D depth. Learn about the several methods of getting a 3-D image including anaglyphs (requires 3-D glasses with red and green lenses) and other methods requiring Polaroid glasses. Infrared light lives in the invisible part of the light spectrum. Therefore, infrared sees what the human eye can not. The photographic artist uses this concept to produce striking, yet sureal images. This one-day workshop will provide you with information about how to shoot infra-red photos with your digital camera. Learn about how to use a digital camera to see and photograph infra-red light. Learn about the filters available so you don't have to modify your camera unless you want to. Also, you get to shoot a figure model in the studio.
